Trump to Bannon: You are fired!
One of the most controversial figures within President’s Trump administration has now become part of the you-are-fired “hall of fame”.
A statement released by Sarah Sanders, a spokeswoman for the White House, indicated that “White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day”.
Even though it wasn’t Trump who personally fired his Chief Strategist, you can almost hear the resounding words immortalized in his TV show, pointing to the Oval Office door with a rigid ‘I’m-not-kidding’ face.
Bannon experienced a lot of pressure from different political groups due to the radical right-wing perspectives that he allegedly has and his influence the President’s nationalist agenda. The pressure reached a peak after he almost contradicted the President on his “fire and fury” statement against North Korea’s military advances in missile technology by saying: “no military solution, forget it” during an interview with “The American Prospect”, a newspaper that sums up his mission statement as “liberal intelligence”, whatever that is.
To add a little bit more spice to the mix, Bannon has been accused by a handful of Washington’s heavy-weights, such as Nancy Pelosi, of having strong ties with the white supremacy movement. Something that doesn’t help the President’s agenda on reducing the impact of his controversial statements about Charlottesville recent situation.
Bannon, who is regarded for some as the “king” of right-wing media was viewed by many as one of the most influential figures of President’s Trump campaign. Nevertheless, his “reign” held for only a few months, at least at the White House. It seems that, given the recent events, the right-wing agenda will have to wait it out.
It is still uncertain where Mr. Bannon will continue his endeavors to push the “America First” idea. A safe assumption would be that he will keep trying to influence the President, now within the shadows of public opinion and Washington’s endless cocktail parties and fundraising events.
On a financial note, Wall Street seems to be taking the news positively. The three major indexes (DJIA, S&P 500, and NASDAQ) have posted mild increases, which appears to be a reaction to Bannon’s news. Reuters quoted Peter Costa, the President of Empire Executions and a governor with the New York Stock Exchange saying: “There’s a lot of hopeful people thinking that, ‘you know what, he has been a divisive figure in the White House… Getting rid of him might be a good deal for the president’.”
